bonjour from another friend: juliet

Greetings & salutations everyone, I am another MIY friend, Juliet. I live in the big sparkly strange utopia that is Los Angeles. I have been sewing since I was little, taught by my grandmother and mother who rule at making beautiful things out of seemingly nothing. In high school I made a good majority of my clothes and made halloween costumes for myself and friends. Of course now that I work full time and try to maintain a social life, my poor sewing machine is very lonely... but I am determined to make friends with it again. In fact I just completed a crafty project using velveteens: fancy napkin rings! They were really easy and a great way to use up the bits of broken jewelry I tend to collect. The napkins are silk, made of fat quarters. The napkin rings are made from a charm square of velveteen. So now I've got the crafting bug!

All my creativity this weekend will go into getting organized, as I just moved and I'm surrounded by boxes and bins. Tonight I am going to see one of absolute favorite bands, AIR!!! They are playing at the Greek Theatre, an outdoor amphitheater in the hollywood hills. I am so excited! They've done music for the soundtracks of movies like "the virgin suicides" and "lost in translation" and it's the perfect background music to play when doing anything creative. Farewell till next time!

Hello from another MIY friend: Ryann Anderson

Hi all,

I'm another MIY friend. While I'm not an active sewer yet, I'm really into other creative expressions, such as photography and scrapbooking, and I'm planning on beginning my sewing education this fall. I just moved into a new house and I've got to add some personal flair! First I'm going to get some of my photos up on the walls in some decorative manner, but at some point very soon I'd really like to be able to make the "tucked place mats" I found in the newest issue of Sew Simple (V.6). They're pictured on the cover, but there are several variations and my favorite is the third one that's purple and green. Sew Simple is pretty much perfect for me as a new sewer...very educational with really fun projects! If any of you are interested, you can find info about the magazine and where to get it at http://www.sewnews.com/sewsimple/sewsimple6/. Happy sewing everyone and I'll talk to you again as soon as I get settled in!

Project Runway

So I am not a fashion designer, nor would I really consider myself a great garment sewer but I set my sights high for this Gala Gown. I used a pattern for my corset (which was completely boned) and then designed the skirt from a variety of patterns and trial and errors.

Topping it all off are about seven 3-D flowers from the new embroidery design collection MIY2: Your Space Designs from Cactus Punch. And that is me in my dress before it goes to Internation Pfaff Convention this week in Dallas. Yea!
